Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (December 15, 2017) – The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has named The Islands Of The Bahamas the Golf Destination of the Year for Latin American & the Caribbean as part of the golf tourism organization’s annual industry rankings.

The annual “Best Golf Destinations” winners are selected based on their breadth and quality of golf offerings including customer satisfaction, quality of golf courses and resorts and level of support from local tourism boards and industry partners. Members of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) received the award at the Golf Travel Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner on December 12 at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in the Palais de Congres in Cannes, France.

“We are honored to be recognized by the IAGTO as a premier destination for golf tourism in the region,” said BMOTA Director General Joy Jibrilu. “The Bahamas prides itself on offering visitors a variety of golf experiences throughout our islands, and we are excited to debut both new and enhanced golf product in the coming year.”

Earlier this year, the resort destination, Baha Mar, opened the first of its three unique properties on Cable Beach with shared amenities including an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. The Bahamas also hosts many elite tournaments each year such as the annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament, annual LPGA Silk Classic Tournament (Nassau) and Hero World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods.
